quick survey...
to everyone who has gotten married or really knows wedding ettiquette:
are we suppose to include the professional photographer and assistant photographer in our headcount for food? is it any different if it's a buffet vs. plated? or if the photographer is required to travel from a ceremony site to a reception site?
we hired our photographer for 6 hours (8:30-2:30pm)...and the ceremony and reception are at the same place...do they get time off to eat the reception food?

you are not obligated. photographers (i was told) are accustomed to bringing their own food and finding time to eat or waiting until after the event.
there's also an option to ask for food to be set aside for the photographer in the kitchen.
we knew we had extra seats, so we reserved 2 spots for the photographer and her assistant. they were really shocked. their time ended before the end of the reception, so they did actually sit for a bit and eat :)
see if your reception site has a boxed lunch for helpers (photographer, dj, site coordinator, etc). You should not have to include them in the count, since you're paying for the hours (and you don't want them to miss important shots!)... but a boxed lunch would be a nice gesture.
Ya agree! It's nice to serve them what you're serving the guests but it's not expected. If you're having a buffet, then you can probably do that pretty easily. Otherwise, you can ask your caterer to make special plates for them. I'm sure they'd be really appreciative that you thought of them...and will have the energy to take good pics for you =)
my reception place had a discounted price on the buffet dinner for vendors, so you might want to ask michaya about that. the band expected food and took out time to eat. as for the photographers, we also got them food, but i think they were working so hard they never took time out to eat!! :)
On the last paid wedding photography gig I did, the reception was buffet, but we were provided with food. My other photographers and I rotated eating so that we wouldn't miss any important shots.
