cake #1

[y] for a few months now, i've been watching the martha stewart show and it has inspired me to make all sorts of things...cards, sweet potatos fries, cupcakes, turkey burgers, and cakes! through my many trips to michaels and hobby lobby to buy card-making things, i stumbled upon the cake-making aisle and saw a posting for wilton cake decorating classes. i think i'm going to try to take the september class, but until then, i thought i'd give it a shot without any formal training. well below is the finished result (2-tiered caramel flavored cake with vanilla buttercream icing)...

yeah, it didn't turn out very well. i was too embarrassed about the finished result that i didn't bring it to the birthday party the next day...so gordon and i will end up eating it all. i think my icing was too soft so none of the stars held their shape. my friend, sandy, bought me a set of wilton icing tips off of my wedding registry so i had some fun experimenting with the tips...

anyways, hopefully i'll improve and maybe go into the cake-making business after having kids =)

that ding dong cake doesn't look too hard...a bunch of stars. but if that's blue fondant underneath, that's too advanced for me!

Looks great Yvonne! Especially for a first time!

I am about to embark on making a Spiderman cake for Ewan's 4th birthday. Thankfully I saw a picture in a magazine that is pretty simple. I just have to make a spider web on the cake instead of figure out how to make a spiderman face or body. It is kind of intimidating. If you start off as good as you are and keep practicing I bet will be able to make any kind of cake your kid dreams of!
